Water for livestock is a constant challenge for farmers. To make sure our cattle were healthy, we wanted to give them access to both borehole water and dam or river vlei water.
Our farm had numerous boreholes but few windmills. Running generators with electrical pumps was time and labour consuming and costly. The first solar pump system we installed was stolen.
A windmill system was the best solution but it’s very costly to purchase and install and the maintenance costs and difficulty getting specialists out was also problematic.
So we decided to build our own. It took 10 years of development and refinement and plenty of help from some friends who are engineers (aeronautical, mechanical, civil and structural) and we finally had a product that we could install, maintain and even move all by ourselves.
